Innovation, scientific research and environmental sustainability: Dellas spa has brought its industrial experience to the center of an important European research, contributing to the success of the ENERFAST project, developed in collaboration with the University of Trento and the Spanish technology center Tecnalia.
A project that looks to the future
ENERFAST is an innovative European project that aims to revolutionize the sintering process of advanced materials, such as diamond tools. At the heart of the project is the application of ERS (Eletrical Reistance Sintering) technology, a technology that can sinter materials in a much shorter time than traditional methods, enabling superior mechanical performance with less energy expenditure.
The study showed how the use of new metal powder blends and optimized sintering parameters results in:
- better mechanical properties;
- reduction in sintering time;
- energy savings in production processes;
- potential reduction in environmental emissions.
Traditionally, sintering requires high-temperature furnaces and long processing times. The innovation lies in using a single machine that, through targeted electrical pulses, directly transforms the powder into the finished product within seconds. These advantages can be transferred directly to the world of industrial production, improving the durability and efficiency of diamond tools, just like those made by Dellas, and contributing concretely to a more sustainable production chain.
The role of Dellas
We have been involved in the development and validation of this new technology for application on diamond tools. Specifically:
- we provided technical specifications and industry requirements;
- we tested the new process on diamond metal segments.
Tests carried out with our technical support have made it possible to develop metal dies for use in the manufacture of diamond tools, capable of ensuring:
- a significant reduction in sintering times;
- lower energy consumption during production;
- a low environmental impact.
The success of the research has also been recognized by the international scientific community, with the results published in one of the most authoritative journals in the field Journal of Alloys and Compounds.
A concrete vision of industrial sustainability
Dellas’ participation in ENERFAST confirms our strong commitment to promoting applied research and industrial sustainability, two aspects that have always guided our vision of innovation.
Being part of a European project of this magnitude also means investing in the future, enhancing the synergies between industry and scientific research, with the common goal of realizing smarter, more efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.
